Meet Luke Lofthouse

NCAA All-American | 3-Time Utah State Champion | Division I Coach

Luke Lofthouse is one of the most respected names in Utah wrestling history. Hailing from Avon, Utah, Lofthouse built a legendary prep career in Cache Valley before taking his talents to the storied University of Iowa program and eventually transitioning into a highly impactful Division I collegiate coach. Luke, known for his grit, relentless hand-fighting, and meticulous physical preparation, he remains a pillar of the Utah and national wrestling communities.

High School Career: Mountain Crest High School (Hyrum, UT)

Lofthouse is widely regarded as one of the most dominant high school wrestlers to ever come out of the state of Utah. Competing for the Mountain Crest Mustangs, he set a standard of absolute dominance:

  • 3-Time Utah State Champion.

  • 161-8 Career Record, setting the school record for career wins and fewest career losses.

  • Two undefeated seasons, going 41-0 as a sophomore and 43-0 as a junior (while not surrendering a single takedown during his junior season).

  • Pin Specialist: Set school records for consecutive falls (35), single-season falls (41), and career falls (123).

  • Accolades: Three-time Utah State Wrestler of the Year and a Wrestling USA Academic All American as a senior.

Collegiate Career: The University of Iowa

Following his historic high school run, Lofthouse headed to Iowa City to wrestle for the powerhouse Iowa Hawkeyes under head coach Tom Brands. Displaying elite resilience, which included taking a two year hiatus from the sport to complete a mission to Africa. Lofthouse capped off his collegiate career at 197 pounds with a massive senior season in 2011:

  • NCAA All American (5th Place, 197 lbs) at the 2011 NCAA Championships.

  • Big Ten Runner Up (2011).

  • 57-39 Career Record as a Hawkeye.

  • Award Winner: Recipient of Iowa’s prestigious John & Dorothy Sill Award, presented annually to the team's most dedicated wrestler.

Coaching Career: Iowa & Utah Valley University

After hanging up his competitive shoes, Lofthouse immediately transitioned into coaching, bringing his high level technical knowledge and physical preparation to the college ranks.

  • University of Iowa (Strength & Conditioning): Spent three seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for the Hawkeyes, shaping some of the most physically dominant teams in the country.

  • Utah Valley University (Assistant Coach): Joined the UVU coaching staff in 2015. Over his tenure, he helped elevate the Wolverine program to unprecedented heights. He coached 15 national qualifiers, helped lead the team to its first ever NWCA Top 25 ranking, and coached the program's first-ever Big 12 Conference Champion.
